What is Harlem Week?
Every year in August, Harlem Week comes to the neighborhood and showcases the life, culture, and history of Harlem. What started as Harlem Day in 1974 has grown into a week-long, or in 2021’s case a 10-day, celebration of all things Harlem.
And because HarlemAmerica Digital Network makes its home in Harlem, founder G. Keith Alexander and the HarlemAmerica team have hours of footage from the week’s festivities. Check them out below.
‘A Great Day in Harlem’
The first major public event of Harlem Week, “A Great Day in Harlem” featured dance parties, exhibitors and vendors, a health fair, vaccination stations, and a salute to our Asian brothers and sisters.
It also included “a tribute to the late legendary Rock & Roll Hall of fame inductee Lloyd Price, the Gospel Caravan, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, and the Lackawanna Blues Band and the Harlem Music Festival All-Star Band.”
You can check out all the great performances, with a live stream presented by G. Keith Alexander and Debbie Jackson, right here.
‘Summer in the City’
Harlem Week continued with another HarlemAmerica live stream of “Summer in the City” hosted by G. Keith and the Urban Cinderella which included the Urban Fashion Show, “Arts, Roots, and Rhythm,” and an “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations” Broadway show performance and casting call auditions, an interview with Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and so much more.
You can watch the full stream here.
‘A Salute to David Dinkins’
There were many great tributes to people we’ve lost recently, from Chadwick Boseman to the 106th Mayor of New York, David Dinkins. G. Keith Alexander and Debbie Jackson were there to host the tribute held for David Dinkins, and you can watch the full special live stream event right here on the HarlemAmerica Digital Network website, including a great personal story from G. Keith about Dinkins’s grace and generosity in G. Keith’s life.

Imagine, if you could have a small business podcast that connects you with the right people – to convert followers or prospects into customers, clients, donors, and fans. That’s the power of the HarlemAmerica Digital Network.
