BIOGRAPHY
Alfred Gallman Dancer, Teacher, Choreographer called a “Artistic Son” by Alvin Ailey trained on Scholarship at Ailey Dance Center, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Clark Center. Mr Gallman has worked with the giants in Dance including Pepsi Bethel, Fred Benjamin, Talley Beatty, Keith Lee, George Faison, Ella Thompson Moore, Louis Johnson, Eleo Pomare and Alvin Ailey. Founder/Director of Gallman’s Newark Dance Theatre (1978-2018) company performed at Lincoln Center Out-Doors, Joyce Theatre MANMADE Festival, Dance St Louis Festival , NJPAC Dance Jam Festival and American Dance Festival Durham NC. He has created over 150 Ballets, Choreographed over 25 musicals and 15 Commissioned Works. Mr Gallman has worked with Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, Sounds of Blackness (Choreographed Debut Video Chains/Optimistic), Blaze (Choreographed Debut Video We All Must Live Together), Harlem Gospel Singers 50 City European Tour, Cheryl Lynn, Ben Vereen, Melba Moore, Vickie Winan, Tina Fabrique and Ralph Carter. His works have been performed in USA, Canada, Europe, Jamaica, Barbados and Japan. Choreographed Bishop Nathaniel Townsley Jr’s Gospel Jubilee Singer Tour at Sun City Jazz Festival in South Africa. His solo MOTHER’S PRAYER was performed at the White House by Presidential Scholar Award Dance Winner Lisa Attles. He received a BRIO Award Choreography, NJSCA Fellowship Choreography and MLK Jr Commemorative Commission Grant. He toured with Bishop Nathaniel Townsley Jr Gospel Jubilee Singers.

Eugenia Foxworth sits down with the legendary choreographer Alfred Gallman, who has studied with some of New York’s elite dancers and choreographers. Alfred speaks on the changes in dance and broadway and how opportunities for young black dancers have changed dramatically over time and how dance has increased in television productions as well as music videos. As a Dancer Alfred has performed with Pepsi Bethel Authentic Jazz Dance Theater, Alvin Ailey Dance Center Workshop, Fred Benjamin Dance Company, Nanette Bearden Contemporary Dance Company, Otis Salid New Arts Ensemble and guest artist with the Munakata Jazz Dance Company in Japan. He was a featured performer of the National Touring Company of the Tony Award winning musical of THE WIZ!
